Siri for Mac Mountain Lion, MISS it

February 21st, 2012

Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, which is reported to be a merge of Mac OS and iOS, miss Siri, one of the most outstanding feature on iPhone 4S iOS 5, even though the notification, note, iMessage, reminders and more are now available on Mac with Mountain Lion. It’s really a disappointment that there is no Siri on the new Mac operating system.

And from some sites, Apple’s hesitancy in the release of Siri for Mac is posited to be related to microphone technology. I know little about microphone tech, but personally speaking, if Siri is available on Mac OS X 10.8, say, Mountain Lion, it will definitely roll the Mac’s world and will be a great scoring point for purchasing a Mac.

And what if there is Siri for Mac?

How it might work

As we all know, we can hold down the home button to use Siri on iPhone 4S. But there is no such a “home button” on Mac. It’s of course not possible for Apple to add a devoted Siri key to any Mac keyboard, so the only way to activate Siri is using the existing key to trigger Voice Control.

Actually what I concerned about is that what if I want to speak to the Siri for Mac meters away, for example, when I’m in the kitchen and would like my MacBook Air on the desk in the living room to play my favorite iTunes playlist, can I speak to Siri to do so with a Bluetooth headphone?

What it could do

Of course the Siri for Mac should handle all tasks that the iOS Siri can handle. For instance, Siri can help me to open a certain app no matter it’s developed by Apple or other developers, play music, send iMessages, launch the FaceTime and so on.

Isn’t it great that you can create a documents, folder, compose some paragraphs and more by speaking to  Siri for Mac? Well, some of these might go a bit too far. But just image that, you can free your hands with Siri and enjoy music, organize your files, send messages and more at the same time! What a great world Siri build!

Siri, show up on my Mac.

What’s Copy Protection?

Copy protection is a technology for preventing the reproduction of software, music, films, and other media (usually copyrighted). It is also known by many as content protection, copy prevention, copy obstruction and copy restriction.  It’s employed on video tapes, DVDs, video game discs and cartridges, computer software discs, and some audio CDs for the companies believe that it will be offset by even greater increases in revenue by creating a greater scarcity of casually copied media.

wavWhat are WAV files?

WAV, short for Waveform Audio File Format,(also, but rarely, named, Audio for Windows) is a Microsoft and IBM audio file format standard for storing an audio bitstream on PCs.Similar to the AVI and ASF format, WAV is only a file container. Audio content that is compressed with a wide variety of codecs and that is stored in a .wav file can be played back in Windows Media Player if the appropriate codecs are installed on the computer. The most common audio codecs that are used in .wav files include Microsoft Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation (MS ADPCM) and uncompressed Pulse Code Modulation (PCM).

The usage of the WAV format has more to do with its familiarity, its simplicity and simple structure, which is heavily based on the IFF file format. Because of this, it continues to enjoy widespread use with a variety of software applications, often functioning as a ‘lowest common denominator’ when it comes to exchanging sound files between different programs. The WAV format is limited to files that are less than 4 GB in size, because of its use of a 32-bit unsigned integer to record the file size header (some programs limit the file size to 2 C4 GB).
